The First China Textile Intangible Cultural Heritage Conference to make its debut

Press Conference for the First China Textile Intangible Cultural Heritage Conference, sponsored by China National Textile and Apparel Council (CNTAC), and co-organized by Intangible Cultural Heritage Office of CNTAC, Hangzhou Xintiandi Group, and People’s Government of Chun’an County was held in Beijing on June 29th, 2017.
Relevant leaders from China National Textile and Apparel Council, Intangible Cultural Heritage Division of Ministry of Culture of P.R. China, Prince Gong’s Mansion Museum of Ministry of Culture of P.R. China, Consumer Goods Division of Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of P.R. China, Hangzhou Xintiandi Group, and People’s Government of Chun’an County, as well as more than 70 media, attended the conference.
Themed on “Sustainable New Ecology of Textile Intangible Cultural Heritage”, the First China Textile Intangible Cultural Heritage Conference aims to promote the integration of traditional culture and modern industry in order to jointly advance the protection and inheritance of textile intangible cultural heritage projects and realize the protection and sustainable development of intangible cultural heritage. The two-day conference will be held in November 2017 in Wenyuan Shicheng, Qiandao Lake, Hangzhou, focusing on the following activities: keynote speeches, dialogue salon, achievement exhibitions, cooperation singing ceremony, award ceremony of collected conference logos, “Xintiandi Cup” 2017 China Textile Intangible Cultural Heritage Promotion Ambassador Announcement & Award Ceremony.

Gao Yong, Party Secretary and Secretary-General of CNTAC said in his speech that, at present, Chinese government and all walks of life have been attaching great importance to the inheritance and development of traditional Chinese culture. President Xi Jinping pointed out that we should earnestly learn from the essence of the Chinese traditional culture to handle the relationship between inheritance and creative development, focusing on creative transformation and innovative development. The CPC Central Committee and the State Council have issued a series of relevant documents, putting forward the requirements to construct a Chinese traditional cultural heritage system, strengthen the protection of cultural heritage, and revitalize the traditional processes. China has published 1,372 national intangible cultural heritage projects, and the textile industry enjoys more than 100 ones, including such three categories as folk art, traditional handicrafts and folklore.
According to Gao Yong, textile intangible cultural heritage has its own significant features: rich variety with deep background, employment promotion with targeted poverty alleviation, craftsmanship of strong personality, affinity with common people and integration of life, green & extensive development. Thanks to joint efforts of all walks of life, textile intangible cultural heritage protection and inheritance has achieved remarkable results.
Gao Yong stated that the conference will not only build a platform for exchange and cooperation, but also integrate all aspects of resources to jointly promote the protection of textile intangible cultural heritage and enhance the cultural strength and cultural self-confidence of Chinese textile industry, hand in hand to build a sustainable new ecology of textile intangible cultural heritage.
Wang Chenyang, Deputy Director of Intangible Cultural Heritage Division of the Ministry of Culture, said at the conference that currently the Ministry of Culture has cooperated with China National Textile and Apparel Council to carry out a series of practices for inheritance textile intangible cultural heritage. The First China Textile Intangible Cultural Heritage Conference will build a platform to further deepen the inheritance and protection of textile intangible cultural heritage.

Sun Huaibin, Vice President of China National Textile and Apparel Council, made a comprehensive and profound exposition on the background, theme and purpose of the conference. He said that the First China Textile Intangible Cultural Heritage Conference is a well-planned and organized activity based on such a good social background as the current government and the community have been attaching great importance to promotion of the traditional Chinese culture and revitalization of the excellent traditional process. It aims to effectively connect the “protection chain” of the inheritance of intangible cultural heritage and the “industrial chain” of textile industry for integrated development of traditional process and modern industry, and to explore such a new way as “culture + industry + Internet” as well as a sustainable mode that is featured as culture-based and market-oriented, while taking the products as the carrier and the Internet as the platform.

The Press Conference witnessed a signing ceremony for strategic cooperation between China National Textile and Apparel Council and Hangzhou Xintiandi Group was staged, while announcing the official launch of Conference Logo Design Collection and Promotion Ambassadors Selection.

Appraisal comes from a combination of online voting and the organizing committee review with a total score of 100, while the former accounts for 20%, and the later accounts for 80%.
Promotion Ambassador Selection
The scope of the selection includes: intangible cultural heritage inheritor, representative of intangible cultural heritage protection agencies, entrepreneurs, designers, media, and intangible cultural heritage protection volunteers.
The promotion ambassadors candidates will be determined through comprehensive assessment. Candidates are required to complete the textile intangible cultural heritage promotion task within the required time. Finally, ten promotion ambassadors will be appraised and elected based on their performances.The First China Textile Intangible Cultural Heritage Conference will announce the results and issue the certificates.
