In the critical period of promoting new industrialization, 2023 (Weihai, China) International Textile and Apparel Sustainable Supply Chain Conference was successfully held on September 26-28 in the beautiful coast of the East China Sea. The conference consists of a theme conference and parallel conferences, gathering experts, scholars and industry elites at home and abroad, focusing on the theme of “Carbon Reduction, Green Growth, Sustainable Future”, to explore the feasible path and value development of creating a sustainable supply chain, and explore the road to industrial modernization of harmonious coexistence between man and nature.

Building sustainable supply chain is the general trend

In his keynote speech “Carbon Reduction, Green Growth, Sustainable Future”, Sun Ruizhe, chairman of International Textile Manufacturers Federation, president of China National Textile and Apparel Council, pointed out that under the new opportunities and challenges, the global supply chain is undergoing great adjustment, great differentiation, and great restructuring. The industry should take technological innovation, capital integration and market cultivation as an important focus, support and foothold for sustainable development; adhere to the responsibility to lead, optimize the management system; anchor the carbon peak and neutrality target and implement green action; strengthen integration and innovation, improve quality and efficiency; deepen opening-up and cooperation, integrate development forces, and build a sustainable future for the textile industry with practical actions.

Building a modern industrial system - Shandong model

“The theme of this conference is closely related to the key tasks of new industrialization and the focus of the current development of the textile industry.” Cao Xuejun, inspector of the Consumer Goods Industry Division of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, said in her speech that to promote the construction of sustainable textile and apparel supply chain, one is to strengthen industrial consensus and form a green, low-carbon and sustainable way of production and life; the second is to strengthen scientific and technological innovation and cultivate the core advantages of technological brands; third, strengthen extensive cooperation to make the industrial chain more resilient. Meanwhile, it is necessary to continuously improve the opening up and cooperation of the industry to the world, and explore new growth points of international trade.

In his speech, Zhang Haibo, secretary of Party Group and director of Industry and Information Technology Department of Shandong Province, pointed out that the Provincial Party Committee and the Provincial Government have specially included the textile and garment industry in the “top ten” industries for the conversion of old and new driving forces, as well as the 11 iconic industrial chains. In the next step, Shandong will strive to improve the quality of supply, enhance innovation capabilities, deepen digital empowerment, expand foreign cooperation, accelerate the cultivation of domestic leading and world-renowned textile industry clusters, and strive to contribute Shandong’s strength to the construction of a modern textile industry system.

“In 2022, the city’s textile and garment industry revenue exceeded 30 billion, accounting for 1/9 of the total industrial output value.” Yan Jianbo, Party Secretary of Weihai, introduced in his speech that Weihai has always adhered to digital empowerment, chain extension, diversified marketing and personalized customization to promote industrial transformation and upgrading and build a complete supply chain system. Guide enterprises to turn from production foundry to creating their own brands, focus on key links such as raw materials, talents, and exhibitions, and promote the formation of a new model of industrial development with the platform integration and agglomeration effect.

At the conference, Mario Boselli, chairman of the Fondazione Italia Cina, chairman of the Istituto Italo Cinese and honorary president of the Camera Nazionale della Moda Italiana, sent a video message of congratulations. He mentioned that China, as an advocate and practitioner of the sustainable development concept of the global textile and garment industry, is continuing to deepen its efforts in the direction of high-quality development, green ecological environment and healthy competition among enterprises, and believes that more excellent green textile enterprises will emerge in the future to make greater contributions.

Li Bo, deputy director of China Textile Information Center, presided over the opening ceremony of the conference.

A series of major projects landed in Weihai

Exploring new solutions for sustainable supply chain construction

At the theme conference, Yan Yan, director of Social Responsibility Office of CNTAC, introduced the positive actions and measures of global textile enterprises to build green and low-carbon supply chain in his speech “Progress and prospect of textile green supply Chain under the background of carbon peak and neutrality”. She pointed out that the wave of green technology, sustainable consumption, green trade market and green supply chain finance market have brought new opportunities to build green and low-carbon supply chains, but also face new challenges such as insufficient supply of public services in the industry and poor green transmission mechanism. The construction of green and low-carbon supply chain should be both “internal and external” and consolidate the development foundation; “double chain” integration to enhance technical support; “digitalization and green” coordination, to achieve emission reduction efficiency.

In addition, the entrepreneurs also introduced the multiple paths combining sustainability and product development and design under different industrial backgrounds from multiple dimensions, and interpreted the methods of building intelligent application platforms, vertically integrating the whole industrial chain, and recycling of waste textiles to achieve low-carbon chain movement of products from different levels. They also shared how to provide collaborative services for textile and garment enterprises and build a green and sustainable future.

Pioneer enterprises share the path of sustainable development

During the conference, nearly 30 outstanding entrepreneurs from various fields of fiber, dyeing and finishing, weaving, fabric, clothing and other industries gathered together in the parallel activity. Jointly discuss and exchange topics such as scientific and technological innovation, product development, brand building, digital transformation and sustainable development under the new development situation.

Promoting leading innovative product development experience

The “2023 Textile Innovative Product Development Conference” held in the same period focused on the theme of “Innovative products leading the new development of the industry”, and shared experience and professional training from multiple dimensions such as economic operation and trade situation analysis, innovative technology application analysis, and innovative product development guidance.

Building a new platform for high-quality supply display and matching

In addition to professional discussions and exchanges, the conference also set up the “ten categories of textile innovative products achievement exhibition” area, which selected some of the products of the “ten categories of textile innovative products cultivation and promotion special work” from 2018-2022, covering the three major fields of clothing, home textiles and technical textiles.

In addition, the conference also organized a special exhibition matchmaking meeting, and more than 50% of the enterprises in the matchmaking meeting came from Weihai, fully demonstrating the brand characteristics and innovation strength of “high-quality Shandong”.

At present, in the direction of forming a green and low-carbon production and life style, Shandong is building a green, low-carbon and high-quality development pilot zone. Weihai, as the vanguard of Shandong’s textile and garment technology, fashion and green development, has strongly supported the high-quality development of the province’s modern textile industry. 2023 (Weihai, China) International Textile and Apparel Sustainable Supply Chain Conference closely follows the pulse of The Times and demonstrates the industry’s responsibility. It is believed that Weihai can take this conference as an opportunity to collaborate with more industry forces to jointly promote innovative cooperation and open integration of the global textile supply chain, and open up new impetus and new space for the development of sustainable supply chain.
