Indian textile orders transferred to China

The recent improvement in textile orders is due to the current peak season for foreign trade. Despite the severe pandemic, the overseas consumer market is still operating. According to previous years, the purchase of supplies for Thanksgiving and Christmas brings a large number of orders, and foreign customers in Europe and the United States will place orders in advance. In addition, since September, many large-scale export-oriented textile companies in India have been unable to guarantee normal delivery due to the pandemic, while European and American retailers have transferred many orders originally produced in India to China in order to ensure that supplies in the Thanksgiving and Christmas sales seasons will not be affected.

India is the world’s largest cotton producer, the world’s largest jute producer, and the world’s second largest silk producer. Its yarn production capacity accounts for 22% of the world. The textile industry accounts for about 15% of India’s total export revenue.

With the spread of the pandemic in India, it is currently difficult for factories in that country to undertake the production of a large number of textile orders in the international market. For example, the Indian textile giant Welspun is more affected by the pandemic. Compared with the current situation in India, the pandemic in China is gradually under control, and many factories’ supply chains resumed operation after June this year. It is reported that among the orders transferred from India to China, the orders for towels, bed sheets and other products are relatively large. Some factories that have received orders from India predict that the number of orders now has been scheduled to May 2021.

For the future, long-term standing in the international textile market is the issue that Chinese textile people need to consider, avoiding price competition with India and other Southeast Asian countries in the low-end market, and seizing the opportunity to make a breakthrough in the mid-to-high-end fabric market.
