The General Administration of Customs of China announced on September 7 the national trade data of goods from January to August 2020. From January to August, the total value of imports and exports of goods trade was RMB 20 trillion, a decrease of 0.6% over the same period last year (the same below), of which exports were RMB 11 trillion, an increase of 0.8%, and imports were RMB 9 trillion, a decrease of 2.3%. In August, foreign trade imports and exports were RMB 2.9 trillion, an increase of 6%, of which exports were RMB 1.7 trillion, an increase of 11.6%, and imports were RMB 1.2 trillion, a decrease of 0.5%.

From April to August, exports of textiles and garments achieved growth for five consecutive months. With the gradual easing of the global pandemic and the decline in demand for pandemic prevention materials, the growth rate of textile exports in August slowed down compared with the previous period. The purchase demand for apparel in major markets rebounded, and apparel exports rebounded, increasing by 5.2% year-on-year and 4.7% month-on-month.

Textile and apparel exports are calculated in RMB: From January to August 2020, the total textile and apparel exports are RMB 1,318.88 billion, an increase of 11.6%, of which textile exports are RMB 737.55 billion, an increase of 37.8%, and apparel exports are RMB 581.33 billion, a decrease of 10.2%.

In August, textile and apparel exports were RMB 216.96 billion, an increase of 22.6%, of which textile exports were RMB 103.23 billion, an increase of 49.7%, and apparel exports were RMB 113.73 billion, an increase of 5.2%.

Textile and apparel exports in USD: From January to August 2020, the total textile and apparel exports were USD 187.41 billion, an increase of 8.1% (national goods trade exports decreased by 2.3%), of which textile exports were USD 104.8 billion, an increase of 33.4%, and apparel exports USD 82.61 billion, down 12.9%.

In August, textile and apparel exports were USD 30.93 billion, an increase of 23.2% (national goods trade exports increased by 9.5%), of which textile exports were USD 14.72 billion, an increase of 48.5%, and apparel exports were USD 16.21 billion, an increase of 6.6%.
