According to the statistics of the General Administration of Customs, in the first half of this year, China’s textile and apparel exports reached USD 149.09 billion, up 12.1 percent year-on-year (3.4 percent year-on-year in RMB terms), and up 12.8 percent compared with the same period in 2019 (pre-pandemic). Among them, the apparel foreign trade continued to improve, the cumulative export reached USD 71.53 billion, with a year-on-year growth of 40.3 percent (year-on-year growth of 29.5 percent in RMB terms).
In the first half of this year, China’s textile exports reached USD 68.56 billion, down 7.4 percent year-on-year (down 14.5 percent year-on-year in RMB terms), mainly due to the high export base of pandemic prevention textiles in the same period last year. Since this year, the total export of masks has remained high, but the unit price has decreased significantly. Meanwhile, exports of textiles increased by 17.0 percent in the first half of this year compared to the same period in 2019 before the outbreak, due to the rapid growth of exports of upstream products such as chemical filament yarns and fabrics.
In June, the national textile and apparel exports were USD 27.66 billion, down 4.5 percent year-on-year (in USD terms), and up 13.7 percent month-on-month. Among them, the textile export was USD 12.52 billion, with a year-on-year decrease of 22.4 percent and a sequential increase of 3.2 percent; the export of apparel in that month was USD 15.15 billion, maintaining the high growth rate of this year continuously, with exports increasing by 18.1 percent year-on-year and 24.2 percent month-on-month.
