Brazilian industry analysts have cut cotton production in response to the worst drought in the country’s main region in nearly a century in recent months.
Experts say that as the drought spreads westward, Brazil’s main producing areas are not expected to receive enough rain until September this year, and the country’s cotton production may not meet expectations.
According to the forecast of the CONAB, the area of cotton planted in Brazil in 2020/2021 will be 13.669 million hectares, a year-on-year decrease of 17.9 percent. The average yield is 1,713 kg/ha, a year-on-year decrease of 4.94 percent. The output is expected to be 2.342 million tons, a year-on-year decrease. 21.97 percent.
