Briefing on economic operation of garment industry in January - May 2019

Production:
According to the data of the National Bureau of Statistics, from January to May 2019, the garment output of enterprises above designated size of the garment industry totaled 9.667 billion pieces, down 0.38% from the same period last year.
For the domestic market:
According to the data of the National Bureau of Statistics, the total retail sales of social consumer goods in January - May 2019 amounted to 16,133.2 billion yuan, an increase of 8.1% over the same period last year. Among them, the retail sales of apparel commodities per unit above the quota totaled 397.4 billion yuan, an increase of 2.3% over the same period last year.
According to the data of the National Bureau of Statistics, from January to May 2019, the online retail sales of physical goods in China totaled 3,041.5 billion yuan, an increase of 21.7% over the same period last year. In the online retail sales of physical goods, clothing goods increased by 21.2% year-on-year.
 
Export:
According to the data of China Customs, from January to May 2019, China’s exports of clothing and accessories totaled USD 51.277 billion, down 5.5% from the same period last year.
 
Investment:
According to the data of the National Bureau of Statistics, from January to May 2019, China’s garment industry actually completed investment growth of 3.9% year-on-year.
 
Benefits:
According to the data of the National Bureau of Statistics, from January to May 2019, there were 13,631 garment enterprises with a total business income of 621.398 billion yuan, an increase of 2.49% over the same period of last year; the total profit of 30.789 billion yuan, a decrease of 1.30% over the same period of last year; and the profit rate of business income was 4.95%, a decrease of 0.19 percentage point over the same period of last year.
