New Textile Designer Zone “Verve for Design” to Debut

Among the more than 1,300 exhibitors from 16 countries and regions at this year’s fair will be some of Italy’s best-known designers. They are part of the “Verve for Design” textile designer zone which debuts at this year’s show.

This is in addition to the SalonEurope, and the Milano Unica and Portugal Pavilions which return this year due to strong interest in 2012. The new zone, located in Hall 3, will feature the inspirations and creative ideas in textile and apparel designs for the textile supply chain of medium to high-end markets.

Next season’s suiting and ladieswear textiles on display
Meanwhile, the Fabrics China Trend Forum will showcase textiles for suitings in Hall 1A2, and for ladieswear in Hall 8A. The four themes that will guide visitors through the Spring / Summer 2014 trends for these fabrics include:

Synesthesia
Meaning together and sensation, this theme relates to technological developments bringing new sensory stimulations. Colours include aqua blue, light lilac, aqua green and light pink, while transparent fabrics, taffeta, nylon, wool and mesh are used.

Isscross
Related to interlocking, this theme touches on a mix of various cultures and artistic styles from different eras, including 1950s Miami, pop in the 1960s, hippies in the 1970s and Balkans folk art. Vintage colours dominate, and fabrics such as tweed, jacquard weaves, floral patterns and spiral prints are called for.

Materiality
The concept of sustainability makes it important to thoroughly perceive and cherish the ‘materials’ around us, transforming their original form with new functions and definitions. Colours such as greyish olive, steel grey, hazy cinnamon, sun-tan brown, slate grey and amber golden are paramount.

Artifice
Faces of the young generation simultaneously express fresh sweetness and unruly rebellion. Liberty and delight co-exist with worldly wisdom and satire. This is a theme with two sides, and uses colours such as bright pink and calm grey.

As the apparel industry starts to turn its attention towards Spring / Summer 2014 fashion trends, Intertextile Beijing Apparel Fabrics will once again provide the resources and inspiration industry players are looking for.

Renowned French trend forecaster Ms Nelly Rodi, of NellyRodi™ Agency, is leading the concept creation and set-up of the Trend Forum which is designed around the Directions Trend committee’s four Spring / Summer 2014 trend themes. She is joined on the committee by Mr Kai Chow of Doneger Creative Services (New York), Ms Sachiko Inoue of I.S. Planning (Tokyo), and Ms Ornella Bignami of Elementi Moda (Milan).

Ms Rodi will present the Spring / Summer 2014 trend forecast, while exhibitors have the chance to display their latest creations for this season in the Trend Forum in Hall 3 under the four themes:

Serene Spirit
A serene mindset breathes deep beneath our spirit. This theme calls for natural, multi-functional, practical, comfortable and safe fabrics. This includes wool, cotton, silk, linen, cupro and tencel. Crinkled finishing and a chiné texture, combined with knits, raschel lace and dobby give a serene look. This theme contains a tonality of cool tones, with metallic silver and dark charcoal grey, accented with mint leaft and layered white.

Blue Mood
Regional products, ethnic customs and craftsmanship inherited from generation to generation are the focus of this theme. Natural fabrics like cotton, linen, ramie, hemp and paper yarn, as well as materials that are waterproof, durable, light and functional are utilised. A wealth of blues, rousing red, orange and brown punctuate the profound hues.

Sweet Rebel
This theme calls for a mix of contradictory elements. Crafted jacquard, elaborate lace, embossed finishing, and trimmings such as frills and ribbons should be used, alongside fantasy-inspired fabrics and patterns. Sweet pastels and edgy colours further reinforce this idea.

Expressive Soul
Multicultural energy is the driving force behind this theme. Futuristic and functional fabrics are a focus, including synthetics and knits. Ethnically inspired stripes and checks are used to give a bold, intense look, while slub yarn, translucency and embroidery are important. A palette of dark and bright combination, boldly ornamented with cooper, gold and fluorescents.
